Styling scrollbars when using scrollToPlugin?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First off, thank you for this amazing library! It's constantly amazing.

I'm using the scrollToPlugin to create an ISI. We've been asked if we can style the draggable element in the scrollbox, but we haven't been able to pinpoint where that might happen.

Does anyone have any experience styling the scrollbar when using the scrollToPlugin?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

I haven't seen styled scrollbars in a very long time. Really not sure about the browser support. Might want to Google a bit or check StackOverflow.com.

Chrome and IE might allow scrollbars to be styled but Firefox will no longer allow it due to the support in the spec.

See this Firefox bugzila: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77790

Your best bet is to just use some type of javascript or jQuery plugin to create some polyfill that creates a fake scrollbar system so it can be styled cross browser.

Not tested with GreenSock scrollToPlugin, but these two plugins can customize the look and feel of the native scrollbars:

nanoScroller.js - a jQuery plugin for implementing Mac OS X Lion-styled scrollbars

Perfect Scrollbar - Minimalistic but perfect custom scrollbar plugin

Cheers

P.
